CHICAGO -- January 23, 2017 -- InContext Solutions, a global leader in virtual reality (VR) solutions for retailers and manufacturers, today announced that Bob Mariano, innovative retail leader and founder of Mariano’s grocery chain, and Stuart Scholly, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Akamai Technologies, have been named to InContext’s board of directors.
Mariano has long been considered the industry’s authority on retail shopping experiences. With 49 years in grocery leadership, the centerpiece of his career was the introduction of the fast-growing Mariano’s Fresh Market in 2010. Today, the stores are known as Mariano’s, a strategically unique grocery banner offering a highly differentiated shopping experience.
“Bob Mariano is a retail industry giant and has an unprecedented ability to create amazing shopper experiences,” said Mark Hardy, CEO of InContext Solutions. “He is a well-respected industry pioneer and his knowledge and vision will be incredibly valuable as we continue to grow. We are excited to welcome him to our board.”
“InContext’s game-changing VR technology is creating a significant impact on the evolving retail industry,” said Mariano. “VR vastly improves the retail innovation process while drastically reducing wasted time and resources. I am thrilled to contribute to a company that is transforming retail as we know it.”
Mariano retired as the Chairman and CEO of Roundy’s, Inc., a leading Midwest grocery retailer with over $4 billion in annual sales, in September 2016 after merging Roundy’s with Kroger. Prior to Roundy’s he was the CEO of Dominick’s Finer Foods and grew the company to a top performing regional supermarket chain with 115 stores, taking it public until Safeway bought the company in 1998.
Stuart Scholly is the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the web security business at Akamai Technologies. In his role, he oversees development of web application firewall, bot management and other security solutions for The Akamai Intelligent Platform™, a cloud-based platform for securely distributing and accelerating web content and other internet-facing applications.
“Among the technological advances of our proprietary software, ShopperMX™, is our ability to deliver VR environments through the cloud, and Stuart’s expertise in cloud and web security services will be a significant advantage as we continue to expand our platform,” said Hardy. “We are thrilled to have Stuart on board as we overhaul retail with VR.”
“InContext is leading breakthrough VR technology with ShopperMX™,” said Scholly. “I’m delighted to combine my knowledge and experience to contribute toward building first-in-class software that makes retail processes more efficient and shopping more engaging for consumers.”
Prior to Akamai Technologies, Scholly served as President of Prolexic, the global leader in distributed denial of service (DDoS) protection services that was acquired by Akamai in 2014. With more than 25 years of technology and product management experience, Scholly is an Illinois Technology Association Spotlight Award recipient recognizing his leadership and outstanding contributions in the application of information technology.
